A luscious olallieberry just waiting to be enjoyed |

|
You've probably heard of the Boysenberry that made Knott's Berry Farm famous, or the most-planted blackberry in the world, the Marionberry of Oregon, or even perhaps the Logan and Young berries.
Well, in 1937, a fella by the name of George F. Waldo first developed the Olallieberry in Oregon by crossing Logan and Young berries. However, the climate wasn't very favorable and in 1957, the Olallieberry found its home in California. This berry loves a cool, coastal climate, and reaches its perfection in small, sunny, coastal microclimates. That makes Avila Valley the perfect home for the Olallieberry, and we're well-known for the quality, abundance, and use of our Olallieberries.

Our berry fields lush and green and full of ripening berries
|
|
Culture of our Olallieberries is a year-round process. It takes two years just to produce a berry! New canes have to grow in the first year, then in the second year, berries grow on those new canes. Right after our harvest, we cut down the old fruited canes and the new growing canes are woven by hand onto the trellises. Throughout the year until the berries are ripe, various tending methods are employed to insure that the berries will be big, beautiful, and juicy sweet for your enjoyment.

Nothing satisfies the sweet tooth better than a slice of fresh olallieberry pie! |

Our 6-acre "U-Pick Patch" supplies our loyal clientele with the freshest, most flavor-packed, berries from June to July. Berries are also picked fresh daily by us and immediately frozen for later seasonal use.
Once you've tasted the full-flavor punch of an Olallieberry, you'll be hooked and come back for more! They taste great right out of the hand, or over your favorite ice cream. Our homemade, fresh vanilla ice cream and fresh berries would be a great flavor combination to try. |

Olallieberry Fruit Spread is just one of the many delicious uses
of our home grown, fresh-picked olallieberries
|
|
We also use our home-grown berries to make our famous Olallieberry fruit spread. Be sure to look for them along with all of our other homemade fruit spreads, gourmet mixes, and specialty foods in our gourmet Gift Shops right here at the Barn.
To extend our berry season, we have added six new varieties–all deemed more flavorful than the famous Boysenberry. Enjoy a "U-Pick" morning or afternoon in the field, or pick up some fresh, just-picked berries at our Farm Stand. And, you can also take home "U-Bake" frozen pie, or fresh-baked Olallieberry pies, cobblers, or turnovers to enjoy later. And, don't forget to take some of our fresh, homemade ice cream too! |
